Welcome to Black Girl Bourbon!
My journey into Bourbon (and Whiskey) actually began on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail in 2011, and my first distillery visits included Woodford Reserve, Wild Turkey, Heaven Hill, and Four Roses. I taught my first Bourbon history (with a tasting) class in 2016.
In 2023, after more than 31 years of public service in the legal profession, I retired.
Also, in 2023, I launched my company, Singleton Hart Consulting & Events, LLC dba Black Girl Bourbon. In designing and hosting whiskey tasting and pairing experiences, my mission is to educate consumers about the whiskey they buy and consume and the laws that impact their purchases. Informed consumers are my goal.
I am a Certified Bourbon Steward through the Stave & Thief Society.
I completed Pronghorn's Spirits PREP program. Also, I earned a Rye Whiskey Certificate, a Whiskey Diploma in Basic Whiskey Studies, and an Associate of Science Degree in Intermediate Whiskey Studies from Whiskey University. I am continuing my studies with Whiskey University and am currently studying both Whiskey History and Craft Distilling.
Last year, I successfully completed the Eh, B, C's of Canadian Whiskey course. And, I expanded my spirits education to include agave spirits, and successfully completed the Agave Masters Course offered by the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET).
Since 2011, I have visited every major distillery on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail and many of the medium and craft distilleries there. My distillery visits, however, have not been limited to Kentucky or Bourbon or Whiskey, as I have visited distilleries across the United States. Since 2011, I have also attended many spirits events--from the Bourbon Classic in Louisville to the Whiskies of the World to bourbon and whiskey festivals across the country.
I have tasted a lot of whiskey since 2011. I have an extensive whiskey collection that includes bottles from the major distillers in Kentucky, Tennessee, and Indiana and bottles from both medium-sized and craft distilleries, including women-owned, veteran-owned, and black-owned distilleries.
Additionally, in 2020, I began exploring the world of cocktails, developing an interest in different flavors, techniques, and ingredients. I have done both rum and whiskey infusions, made my own simple syrups, and batch made cocktails for events.
I am a member of Bourbon Women; and, in 2023, I was selected as a Bourbon Women SIP Scholar. I am also a member of the DC chapter of Women who Whiskey and Spirited Collective. I was also a member of the former, Black Bourbon Society.
To ensure the safety of my clients and their guests, I completed Pennsylvania's Responsible Alcohol Management Program (RAMP) Server/Seller Training and am RAMP-certified.
